Project: Combining Protura applejuice and the DigiRehab app
The project aims at developing an add-on to the DigiRehab app that can monitor both training and protein intake demonstrating the impact training and protein supplementing has on elderly people living at home, i.e. gained muscle and mobility equals elderly wellbeing, autonomy and cost saving on care-staff.
The overall novelty of the project is to combine tailored physical training performed with home care staff, who are not educated in physical training, with intake of protein using the Protura applejuice.
A link between training and protein consumption and mobility/muscle strength in the 65+ segment
Despite initial issues with apple juice production and establishing a test group in collaboration with a local authority, the project team achieved its goal to test the combined effect of impact training and a protein-rich drink on muscle strength and mobility in elderly people living at home.
An agreement with a senior citizens club led to the recruitment of 25 subjects for the test group. Each subject was screened for physical performance and an individual training program developed in the Digirehab app. Physical data was collected at the end of the testing phase.
Although the results of the clinical test are not conclusive, there are indications of a link between training and protein consumption and mobility/muscle strength in people aged 65+.
