Caliente Beverages: Shifting the 50+ from alcoholic to non-alcoholic 

Project: Increased life quality and health among the 50+ through shifting from an alcoholic to non-alcoholic spirit

The project aims to reduce alcohol consumption among the over-50s by 1) developing the first non-alcoholic spirit with a flavour, sensation and overall quality that matches alcohol and 2) communicating how capsaicin (chlili extract) in combination with innovative production methods can replicate the quality normally associated with alcohol.

By the end of the project, the first fine non-alcoholic spirit should be ready for market launch, with a plan for scalable production in place.

Final report: The drinks is already sold in Scandinavian bars

Caliente Beverages has successfully finalised the development and trial of a non-alcoholic spirit and launched the outcome – its new Gnista brand – in 10 Scandinavian bars. The product is also available via a web shop, and distributor partners have been found in Sweden and London.

Overall, the project has included product development, identification of a production partner, brand development and design, and a market test in London.
